It’s the final countdown!

With less than two weeks to go before we end the production of our standard Carrooka board range here in our Staffordshire workshop, we thought it was time for a quick update and some news about where to buy Carrooka boards once we stop selling them. We are fast running out of boards! Natural birch boards will sell out within days. We have better stock levels of Classic Green and Pool8. There are a few Carrom360 boards left and we also have a Pool8 board in green and natural birch. On May 29th we will be at UK Games Expo at the NEC so we expect to sell out of all remaining boards while we’re there. If Carrooka has winked at you for a while, it’s time to get your order in for UK delivery! When we have finished making our boards, we will be continuing to make high-end, hardwood, bespoke tournament boards on a part time basis. These will be available for world-wide delivery. More news on that coming soon. Our standard range of Carrooka boards, the ones you all love, will be available for worldwide delivery, from a range of carefully selected international licensees. Their boards are all beautifully made and are of comparable or better quality than the ones we have been making ourselves for the past five years. Two of our international makers have been up and running for just over a year: www.carrookaboards.com are based in Canada, they make the full range of Carrooka boards for worldwide delivery. www.woodestic.eu make Carrooka in their own beautiful house-style and also delivery worldwide. For everywhere else, it is going to take a little while for all the ducks to get in line, so there may be gaps in availability until everything settles. Disrupted shipping routes caused by international troubles will cause some delays. UK customers! You will be able to order Carrooka boards from Oddballs they will have boards in the UK made by a team of amazing carpenters (trained by us) who work for a fairtrade organisation in India. Also in the UK, you can order from Masters of Games. They will hold stocks made by a variety of our licensed makers. We’re very excited to let you know that there is also a shipment of boards on the way from India to The Netherlands. When they have landed, the full range of our boards will be much more easily available in the EU… please watch this space for updates. Equally excitingly… there is also a small batch of boards on a boat from Canada to Australia, so they will be available very soon. As soon as we sell out of our own boards, you will notice that this website will completely change. It will become more of a signpost so that you can easily find the Carrooka board that is closest to you for easy ordering. Please bear with us while we make that happen! What with trying to make as many boards as possible before we stop at the end of May, getting ready to attend UKGamesExpo and re-vamping the website, it’s a really busy time for the two of us! There will be more from us soon, including some sneak peeks of some stunning new tournament boards! Thanks as ever for all your support, we’d be nothing without you!

Big news from Carrooka HQ

This one is a big announcement that we’re slightly nervously excited to make, it’s especially important for anyone in the UK who is keen on Carrooka! On May 31st 2021 we launched Carrooka to the world, not knowing where the adventure would take us and you blew us away! We never really expected that we would both end up making thousands of Carrooka boards in our little workshop and that the Carrooka revolution would spread to so many countries of the world. So before we get to the BIG news, we would like to thank each and every one of you for your support and enthusiasm – we couldn’t have got this far without you! And one last thing, before we get to the BIG bit… Carrooka is NOT GOING AWAY, it is growing and the business is stronger than ever before. But on May 31st this year, exactly 5 years to the day since we launched, Jack and I (George) will be stopping production of our standard Carrooka boards. We’ve loved carefully crafting each and every game, but our bodies are telling us, it’s time to let someone else meet demand. We will still be running the business and Jack will be dedicating his time to making truly special, stunning bespoke tournament boards on a part time basis- so there’s no retirement for us yet! We have more exciting announcements to follow, including all details of how you can buy Carrooka, wherever you live, once we stop making them… you’ll have to be patient for those details- there’s some great news to come! For now, if Carrooka has ever winked at you, if you are teetering on the edge of making that purchase, and if you would like to buy directly from the inventors, the time to do so is NOW! We will be working our socks off to make as many boards as possible over the next two months, but we will have to close the order books when they’re full, so please do not delay. If you already have a board and you know your friends, family or local pub have been thinking about it, please let them know that there is limited time to have a board made by the designers themselves. More details to follow so please keep an eye on us! For now…it’s time for us to flick off!

Training the Asha team

Seeking worldwide stockists

Back in April this year, we (Jack and George) headed off for an exciting adventure. We boarded a plane at Heathrow and nine hours later we found ourselves in Mumbai, where we were greeted by one of the team from Asha Handicrafts Association.  Asha are an incredible fairtrade organisation who make games and homeware for worldwide distribution. Their skill levels are incredible; but what is more exciting to us is that every artisan receives healthcare, education and opportunities for their families as well as professional development opportunities. Despite no sleep whatsoever, we headed straight to the workshop, which gave us 45 minutes to have our first glimpse of Asia. It was all unfamiliar until we walked into the workshop, where we immediately felt right at home! The team were brilliant to work with. They were already great carpenters; we just need to spend a week with them to help them to become great Carrooka makers. Fast forward six months- Asha have been practicing Carrooka fabrication and honing their skills. They are now fully kitted up and ready to add Carrooka to their portfolio. We’re so excited about it all- we always knew Carrooka is a good game, but now it is a game that does good! Knowing that every board sold by the Asha team will help people and possibly even help to reduce some of the inequality that exists in this world, just fills our hearts with joy! Asha are now able to take trade orders from shops, wholesalers and distributors worldwide. We are really keen to secure wholesale orders from the EU and Australia as we have supply gaps there, and we know we have flickers waiting to buy Carrooka boards. If you are interested to find out more, please email us at hello@carrooka.com

The Rolls-Royce of Carrooka- available now

This is as rare as hen’s teeth! We have a stunning Carrooka tournament board available to buy, it’s live in our shop for immediate dispatch to a lucky UK customer. You can see it here: Beautiful oak, classic green tournament board- skip the waiting list! – Carrooka What’s a tournament board? Well to start with, it’s bigger, the overall diameter is 91cm making it 10cm larger than a standard board. That may not sound a lot, but 10cm on the diameter of a circle makes a huge difference (probably something to do with Pi, but maths isn’t my strong point!) If you’re a snooker fan, you’ll know the difference between playing on a full sized snooker table compared to a table in a pub… it suddenly feels MASSIVE and that’s the same with a Carrooka tournament board. Additionally, the solid hardwood rail gives it a very traditional, luxury feel and the additional weight makes the rotating mechanism as smooth as silk. Usually we only make these boards to order, but we wanted to film our making process for training purposes, so here we go… one stunning oak railed tournament board, and it can be yours within a week. We include all counter variations, a triangle and a scoreboard. It’s perfect for the serious game player, or a pub or club. It’s a proper collectors piece, signed by Jack, that will last for generations to come!

Introducing Carrooka by Woodestic!

Hello Everyone We’re happily writing to you again with a Carrooka update about international availability. The first of our new licensed makers has launched! Woodestic is a Hungarian brand with worldwide distribution, but we’ll let Péter Karcagi, founder of Woodestic explain all – “We make handcrafted wooden board games, like Crokinole, Carrom, or Shuffleboard. We love sparking joy in families through beautifully made wooden board games – creating WOW moments so real human connections can thrive in this digital world. We believe that life’s ultimate goal is to have fulfilling experiences. Since introducing Woodestic Crokinole boards in 2012, we have continuously improved our products’ quality and appeal. We take pride in crafting each unique board. It was an exciting part of our last year when George and Jack approached us to make Woodestic Carrooka, since we are in the middle of extending our portfolio with more exciting wooden games. We put our heart into it to make it as good as possible, keeping the original features but extending the experience!” The Woodestic Carrooka can now be pre-ordered! Woodestic will start shipping orders in the order they arrive from May 12th onwards. For worldwide shipping, order from here: https://woodestic.com/shop/woodestic-carrooka/  For shipping in the EU, order from here: https://woodestic.eu/shop/woodestic-carrooka/  We’re very excited that Woodestic have taken on this challenge, and we love that glossy glow they’ve achieved on the playing surface! We hope you love it too😊 Please don’t forget, we have two more makers to follow and as soon as we can share their details we will. It’s likely that our Canadian partner will launch soon, their boards will be more akin to the one’s we make ourselves. Later in the year we anticipate our fairtrade Indian partners will be ready, their boards will be a good quality value proposition. Jack and I are flying out to India on Sunday, to spend some time helping to train the team of experienced carpenters in the fine art of Carrooka board making! With that in mind, please accept our apologies; we are struggling to keep up with all the lovely emails and messages we are receiving at the moment. If you have enquiries about the Woodestic Carrooka boards, please reach out to them directly. For everything else, please bear with us, we will reply when we can! With best wishes as ever George (and Jack too, he’s busy in the workshop making Carrooka boards!)

Our International Plans

Since 2021 we’ve supplied 34 countries of the world with Carrooka boards, but that all changed at the end of 2021 when we decided to restrict supply of boards to the UK only. There are a few reasons for this, but it’s mostly due to value for money for our customers. An American Carrooka player paid £98 for shipping, a European flicker paid £48 plus the same amount again (at least) for import duties and taxes. Feedback indicated that you all think our handmade boards are value for money (especially considering the board will give you a lifetime of play), but that you didn’t want to pay so much shipping in order to get your hands on a board. So we decided to seek international partners who can make and sell Carrooka boards around the world. If we’re successful it should mean that there is a local solution for you, no matter where you are. At the time of writing, we’re in talks with a couple of makers. We’re certain that we want to maintain the quality of our Carrooka boards, no matter who is making them, so we’re being a bit fussy about who we talk to! It’s early days but the indicators are good and we hope to have others making boards at some point in 2025. If you live anywhere other than the UK and you would like to join the Carrooka revolution, please email us at hello@carrooka.com with the subject line “tell me when I can order for international delivery” and we’ll add you to our list so that we can let you know hen it’s possible. Please forgive us if we don’t reply to your email… there’s only so many hours in the day! If you’re an overseas maker who is interested to join our Carrooka journey, please feel free to get in touch!
