Back in April this year, we (Jack and George) headed off for an exciting adventure. We boarded a plane at Heathrow and nine hours later we found ourselves in Mumbai, where we were greeted by one of the team from Asha Handicrafts Association.
Asha are an incredible fairtrade organisation who make games and homeware for worldwide distribution. Their skill levels are incredible; but what is more exciting to us is that every artisan receives healthcare, education and opportunities for their families as well as professional development opportunities.
Despite no sleep whatsoever, we headed straight to the workshop, which gave us 45 minutes to have our first glimpse of Asia. It was all unfamiliar until we walked into the workshop, where we immediately felt right at home!
The team were brilliant to work with. They were already great carpenters; we just need to spend a week with them to help them to become great Carrooka makers.
Fast forward six months- Asha have been practicing Carrooka fabrication and honing their skills. They are now fully kitted up and ready to add Carrooka to their portfolio. We’re so excited about it all- we always knew Carrooka is a good game, but now it is a game that does good! Knowing that every board sold by the Asha team will help people and possibly even help to reduce some of the inequality that exists in this world, just fills our hearts with joy!
Asha are now able to take trade orders from shops, wholesalers and distributors worldwide. We are really keen to secure wholesale orders from the EU and Australia as we have supply gaps there, and we know we have flickers waiting to buy Carrooka boards.
